Anges or Agnes

Posted on May 12th, 2009 by Anges : Soul awakener Anges
Angel

I used to play scrabble with my grand mother and I lived for the day that I would know enough to beat her. This was one of my raison d'etre. There was nothing nasty in my yearning, just an incredible force of wanting to be big, to be grown up. And the minute I was, I flew the nest and started a new life.

My birth name is Agnes, which in my native language sounds like "Anne-yes" and I like the sound of it. It comes from Agnus Dei, the sacrificial lamb. For this reason, I disliked it for a long time. And in a way, as my mother used me as a scape goat and a mirror for her neurosis, my name had a poignant truth to it that made it sometimes even unbearable. But there is another aspect to it: the innocence and purity and I believe that it is well suited to me - I hope you will bear with me and not label me as arrogant too soon. I have managed to find my own innocence and purity despite having been "dirtied" by the people who raised me and by many other people after them. Why is it that innocence attracts so much violence from abusers?

But then I started working and interacting with the English speaking world and my name became Ag-nes. And something funny happened: I had a secretary, back then, who kept on mispelling my name into "Anges" and even started calling me like this because of all the corporate lawyers that she worked for, she felt I was the most loving and kind to her (why shouldn't I be, just because she was a secretary? well I guess the question is quite relevant when you work in a law firm). And from there my nick name stuck: Anges

Now Anges, in French, means Angels. And although I felt quite self conscious about it to start with, it seemed to stick. And in a funny sort of way, when I started becoming aware of my mediumship abilities and how much I channel angel guidance, my name took another funny twist or dimension.

I guess I wanted to share all this with you today because many of you change my name from Anges to Agnes and I wanted to say that it's fine. It's just a scrabble trick... all the letters are the same, although i do prefer Anges because somehow it acknowledges my world, my connection and my mission better.

So Anges or Agnes, I am glad you are my friends.

Blessings from the other side

This is fascinating.  From so many different levels.  Thank you for sharing your story of your name!  I sometimes have looked at your name from my friends list and kept experimentally trying to pronounce it Ang-gess.  Anjess.  Ag-ness.  You know what?  I think you're lucky that you've discovered the two (or many) different names to yourself.  Like scrabble letters, if we keep trying them in different orders, maybe we'll keep discovering parts of ourselves that we've not yet known or reconciled with?  Blessings to you, in all your many names and guises!  Love, Kathy

Anges, I smile because I had assumed that Anges [la version francaise] was your given name all along; and it speak to who you are as an Angel on earth. I have never once thought of you being anything but an Angel conduit! Agnes, I thought, was your English 'derivative' after moving to England :) Imagine that!

I think it is safe to say that you did your 'sacrificial lamb' duties in your youth and have hopefully now moved on to the 'benefits' of being a willing Source conduit! That peaceful, harmonious person I met in Bristol surely appears to be in a beautiful place among the angels!

Thank you for sharing this with us. It's wonderful!

Only blessings to you dear sis, Sherri

Kathy and Sherri: thank you for your very loving entries. I never thought my name could be fascinating… I just wanted to explain the puzzle!!!

Sherri you made me smile too: assuming this was my birth name. I have been told by a karmic astrologer that I am an incarnated angel (still coming to terms with that one though).

Looking at ourselves as scrabble games can be a metaphor in itself. Until we get the spelling right LOL. It's all about looking for the right thing in us. Letting go of other people's vision of who we are. And finding the truth within. So maybe the story of my name is also about this.

Kathy…. it's Ange as in almost Anj' (we don't pronounce “s” at the end of words) or Anne-yesssssssss…. just to contradict myself. In fact, all my English friends have gone through the joke of Anne-yessssssssssssss or yesssssssssss it's Anne-yessssss. LOL

Blessings to you

what a beautiful story. I'd wondered where your name had come from.

the agnus dei is often the most beautiful part of a sung mass - one of the most beautiful ones I know is this adaptation of Barber's Adagio - for you, ma chere, avec amour!

That's it Nicole. you managed to make me cry (smile). Thank you for the beautiful music. I think I need to buy myself a CD of this music to remind me of my purpose. Can you suggest anything?

I just remembered a prayer we said in Church as a child which started like “Agneau de Dieu, toi qui enleve tous les pechers du monde, donne nous la paix” “Agnus Dei, you deliver us of our sins, please give us peace”… I don't know what to add.

Big hug

Yes, that's it exactly, those words in French and English are the words of this part of the mass in Latin that the singers are singing: ”agnus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem”

If you wish a CD of this gorgeous music there are many versions.

For example you may buy an MP3 of just that song from here:

or for a whole CD of this and other lovely music:

Nicole, I finally ordered the CD that you suggested as a pre-birthday present to myself and I am listening to it as I write and tears are pouring down my eyes. Tears of emotion at the beauty of the music but also strangely enough, this music seems to take me home… to the world of angels that I belong to and work with. A world of purity of heart and soul.

A big thank you from the bottom of my heart. This was the best birthday present ever.
